GEGENkino presents: „True Politics“ video art exhibition + forum
Thank you all for coming to our opening and the screening yesterday! It was really quite wonderful to see so many of you.
Thanks to Stephanie Comilang for presenting her work personally and being such a lovely guest. The film programme was sold out as well, so it was a full evening with a lot of people. Also thanks to Stephanie Cumming and Daniel Hoesl for being our guests and being really nice people.
The exhibition is open today and tomorrow from 6 to 11pm—come ‘round or come ‘round again, it’s a nice place to hang out and watch videos. So take your time… and on top of that, today there’ll also be our disccussion forum about documentary aesthetics, image politics, representation, truth and so on and so on at 7:30pm.
At 9pm we will show Omer Fast’s recent work CONTINUITY. We don’t know how many of you are planning to come, but if it’s as many as yesterday, you better be there early, if you want to get a good seat.

The TRUE POLITICS video art exhibition will be held from 07 to 09 April, starting at 6 pm respectively at the ballroom of Schaubühne Lindenfels –with exhibition tours on 07 and 09 April at 6:30 pm.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a discussion forum taking place at 08 April on 7:30 pm in which Selma Doborac, Mario Pfeifer, Lars Koch and Angelika Bartl will debate about about the possibilities of documentary film and art and about the responsibilities of artists with regards to information
production.

Let us continue—with CONTINUITY! We’re kind of excited to be able to show this new film by Israelian artist and director Omer Fast, because it’s really that brilliant a film; arguably quite unlike everything you’ve seen of recent German cinema lately. CONTINUITY will be screened on 08 April, 10pm at Schaubühne Lindenfels. If the title sounds familiar to you: a shorter version of the film was already shown at dOCUMENTA13 back then and at Martin-Gropius-Bau recently – and now here’s the feature length version of it. CONTINUITY

CONTINUITY beginnt als emotionale Geschichte einer Rückkehr nach Hause. Thorsten und Katja, ein verheiratetes Paar mittleren Alters, holen immer wieder junge Soldaten in Bundeswehruniform vom lokalen Bahnhof ab. Jedes Mal ist es ein anderer Kriegsheimkehrer, den sie mitnehmen und dem sie bei sich zu Hause einen festlichen, wenn auch etwas unbeholfenen Empfang bereiten. Eines haben alle jungen Männer gemeinsam: auf dem Namensschild ihrer Uniformen steht „Fiedler“ – der Familienname der beiden Eltern. Und alle diese jungen Männer verschwinden – auf nicht geklärte Weise. Es bleibt unaufgelöst, ob es einen Daniel Fiedler jemals gab, woher Trauer und Hoffnung der Eltern rühren und ob die jungen Männer womöglich Prostituierte sind, die dem Paar helfen sollen ihre Trennung abzuwenden. CONTINUITY baut eine immense Spannung auf, nimmt einen gefangen, schlägt erzählerische Volten, wechselt Identitäten, wird aber an keiner Stelle so labyrinthisch, dass er den Kontakt zum Publikum verliert. Immer wieder werden subtile Fährten gelegt, zwischendurch flackern klare Momente auf, bevor es dann gleich weiter geht, hinein in die nächste raffinierte, inhaltliche Verwicklung, in einen weiteren Loop. Als Variationen eines unheimlichen Rituals samt seiner sonderbaren Rollenspiele kippen diese immer wieder ins unerwartet Erotische. Omer Fasts Interessen sind das Stolpern, das Herausfallen aus der Linearität einer Geschichte. Resultat sind produktive Irritation und die Dekonstruktion der filmischen Wirklichkeit. Unglaublich gut.
