Jaap Blonk just arrived in Leipzig in order to grace us with his fine poetry. Here’s a few examples to get a slight taste of what Jaap is gonna do later tonight:

What will be the Dr Voxoid’s next move? Those who know him might expect a knight’s jump…but then they know he won’t do the expected. How about a king’s stately step this time? Or the bishop’s stealthy sneak-through?

Tonight we add a healthy amount of DADA to our programme:
On the second last day of GEGENkino Jaap Blonk from the Netherlands will pay a visit to LuRu cinema and serve the audience some of his poetic (or whatever the hell you want to call it) pieces. You can get a slight impression of what it will sound like here, though Jaap is going to put himself into the role of Dr Voxoid who will bring his electronic toys and add all kinds of weird sounds to his dadaist vocal performance.
Furthermore, we are going to screen Helmut Herbst’s essential DADA documentary “Deutschland DADA” from 1969 in order get all the DADA history into your brains.

Dada ist Chaos, Spontaneität und Spott, ist Infantilismus par excellence, doch dabei charmant. Dada ist spielerischer Ernst, nihilistischer Protest, radikaler Überfall – gegen und auf die Künste, auf jeglichen Sinn in allen Künsten. Dada ist Vertreterin eines Unsinns, der beileibe kein Blödsinn sein will. Von den technischen Möglichkeiten Filme zu machen, waren in den 1910er und 20er Jahren Dadaisten wie Hans Richter, Man Ray oder Viking Eggeling fasziniert. Technik und ästhetisches Experiment flossen zusammen zu kleinen Filmen, visuellen Störungen, die späteren Generationen experimenteller FilmemacherInnen als Inspiaration diente. Helmut Herbsts Filmklassiker „Deutschland Dada“ dokumentiert die Auswirkungen der weltweiten dadaistischen Explosion in einem Dada-Alphabet. Neben anderen sprechen Raoul Hausmann, Richard Huelsenbeck und Hans Richter über die seltenen Momente, in denen sich radikaler gesellschaftlicher Protest und radikale Kunst kurzfristig miteinander verbündeten.
Dada ist immer schon ein medienübergreifendes Phänomen. Deswegen wird der Film im Anschluss ganz wunderbar ergänzt durch die Performance des niederländischen Lautpoeten Jaap Blonk, einem der profiliertesten Vertreter seines Fachs weltweit. Blonks sehr physische Auftritte streben danach ein Kino fürs Ohr zu erzeugen und artikulieren damit eine dadaistische Poesie, bei der Sprache als Klang aufgefasst wird. Das Geschriebene ergibt keinen erzählerischen Sinn, sondern ist Material für komponierte Laut-Artikulationen, die Sie so garantiert noch nie erlebt haben.
