GEGENkino will open it’s gates today. We would have shown you some pictures of UT Connewitz’ special spatial set-up for tonight, hadn’t we forgotten to bring our cameras. But take it from us, it’s going to be a dazzling start for the festival. “La Region Centrale” looks great on 16mm. Plus, there will even be sunbeds and a bar with solidarity cocktails (you know, cheap drinks to support the festival and the artists) and other nice surprises.

GEGENkino is drawing near. We can’t even fall asleep anymore out of excitement (and last-minute organizational stuff). If you are also insomniac why not spend your nights with reading knowledgeable, lengthy essays on obscure film makers and genres? You can find them over there on Marcus Stiglegger’s blog. He will come to GEGENkino on the last day of the festival and give a lecture about “Fascism and sexuality in movies and popular culture”, followed by a screening of Tinto Brass’ “Salon Kitty”.

Faschismus und Sexualität in Film und Popkultur. Lecture von Marcus Stiglegger
Prostitution und Perversion, Dominanz und sexuelle Hörigkeit gehören zum Kernbestand der reißerisch-sexualisierenden und auf maximale Sensationsbefriedigung zielenden Themen und Motive, die das Medium Film für die Darstellung faschistischer Gesellschaften heranzieht. Ausgehend von dieser Verquickung von Sexualität, Grausamkeit und Politik wird Film- und Kulturwissenschaftler Marcus Stiglegger ans Mainstream- und Autorenkino anknüpfen. Beginnen wird er mit den siebziger Jahren und höchst ambitionierten, politisch und philosophisch aus ihrer Zeit heraus inspirierten Produktionen, zu denen etwa Pasolinis „Salò – Die 120 Tage von Sodom“ oder Viscontis „Götterdämmerung“ zählen; um dann den Unterschied zu sensationsbetonten Nachziehern zu treffen, die das vermeintliche Erfolgsrezept der prominenten Vorgängerfilme in einen softpornografischen Kontext überführen.
Anhand von Filmbeispielen führt Stiglegger ebenso zu maßgeblichen Vertretern des exploitativen und nicht-trivialen Kinos, indem er nach Funktion und Resonanz mal subtiler, mal plakativer Zitate faschistischer Symbolik in der Popkultur fragt. Welche Verwendung finden Kult- und Fetischformen des Faschismus in den Rock’n’Roll-Posen eines Marilyn Manson und der kritischen Überaffirmation der Band Laibach?

SS-Offizier Wallenberg funktioniert das Edelbordell „Salon Kitty“ zur Abhöreinrichtung um. Ausländischen Diplomaten und hochrangigen Nazi-Funktionären werden von ebenso willigen wie parteitreuen Damen Geheimnisse entlockt. Desertationspläne werden öffentlich, eine Exekution folgt. Die Prostituierte Margharete und Puffmutter Kitty wollen dem Recht wieder zur Geltung verhelfen und beginnen, Wallenberg zu sabotieren. Neben der exzellenten Regiearbeit von Tinto Brass besticht das außergewöhnliche Setdesign von Ken Adam, der schon an Kubricks „Barry Lyndon“ mitarbeitete.
